A pedestrian has tragically lost his life after being struck by a vehicle at a highway intersection in Vaughan, Ont., on Saturday.

Around 1:30 a. m., a 76-year-old man was hit by someone driving a white BMW at the intersection of Highway 7 and Martin Grove Road, according to York Regional Police.

Police mentioned that the man was unconscious when emergency teams arrived on the scene and later lost vital signs.

Responders started performing CPR as they transported the man to the hospital, where he was declared dead, they stated.

The driver stayed at the scene, police reported.

The intersection and parts of nearby roads were closed overnight while an investigation took place.

Authorities are urging any witnesses to get in touch with York Regional Police’s Major Collision Investigation Unit.
