Niagara University in Ontario has officially launched the newly finished 18,000 square-foot Phase 2 expansion of its campus located in the bustling Vaughan Metropolitan Centre (VMC) in the City of Vaughan. This growth reinforces the university’s dedication to becoming the leading binational university within Ontario and upholds its more than 40-year history of preparing graduates for leadership positions across Canada.
The Rev. James J. Maher, president of Niagara University, was joined by Mayor Steven Del Duca, members of Vaughan City Council, MPP Laura Smith, Bishop Boissonneau and the Niagara University Board of Trustees to cut the ribbon at a special dedication ceremony celebrating this significant event.
“This expansion, which is dedicated to the Cortellucci family, elevates our long-standing history and legacy in Ontario,” said Father Maher. “For more than 40 years, Niagara University has contributed to the workforce and enhanced the social economy of the Province through our outstanding academic programs that provide pathways to in-demand careers and our community partnerships that ensure our curriculum remains relevant and innovative. This expansion enhances our collaborative and dynamic learning community in Vaughan and underscores our commitment to continuing our impact in the region.”
Since 1984, Niagara University has offered programs in Canada which operate under the written consent of the Minister of Training, Colleges and Universities. The university has maintained strong partnerships with Catholic and public-school boards in Ontario, as well as with many colleges throughout the province. In 2019, it established a permanent location in Vaughan, making it the first university within both Vaughan City and York Region while providing students and alumni a place they can call their Niagara University home.
“Today marks an important milestone for Niagara University in Ontario – and for our city – as the university officially opens its doors to the newly completed Cortellucci Family Hall in phase two expansion,” said Steven Del Duca, mayor of Vaughan. “Situated right at the heart of VMC, this new modern facility will offer students and staff access to cutting-edge innovations that support their educational journey while nurturing tomorrow’s leaders. I want to thank Niagara University for this incredible investment into Vaughan. I look forward to continuing building on our longstanding partnership to support students here for generations.”
The Cortellucci Family Hall is an impressive 18,000-square-foot facility on campus featuring smart technology classrooms, expanded collaboration spaces, student lounges, an event venue, and inviting faculty offices that will greatly enhance student experiences through modern learning environments that promote academic growth as well as personal development.
“It’s been a privilege for our family to be part of Niagara University’s journey in Ontario from its initial campus up until today with opening Cortellucci Family Hall during this exciting phase two expansion,” said Peter Cortellucci from Niagara University’s Board of Trustees. “We’ve witnessed how vibrant this community is filled with people giving their all each day creating a culture fostering connection among everyone involved here at NU! The new state-of-the-art facility will help fulfill that mission by providing students ample opportunities to grow together whilst strengthening ties between both universities’ campuses along side local communities.”
