A major step forward was achieved in April on the Canada Drive-America Avenue Bridge in Vaughan, as teams successfully placed the bridge girders – large horizontal beams – over Highway 400, connecting the upcoming bridge to Canada Drive and America Avenue.
Slated for completion in 2026, the bridge will improve Vaughan’s transportation network, ease traffic congestion, and enable residents to move smoothly from one area to another.
The City of Vaughan entrusted Ellis Don Civil Ltd. with the detailed design and construction of the bridge. The total cost for this project is $25 million, with $9 million provided by the city, $8.5 million from York Region, and $7.5 million sourced from the federal Housing Accelerator Fund.
“The Canada Drive-America Avenue Bridge is a key infrastructure development project that will improve our quality of life, and construction is already underway,” said Mayor Steven Del Duca. “This new bridge will link two communities on either end of Highway 400, enhance our overall transportation network, allow residents to travel seamlessly by car, bike or foot and create another critical east-west connection that will help reduce traffic in our city.”
