York Regional Police report that a shooting in Vaughan on Monday afternoon resulted in one fatality.
Officers were alerted to multiple gunshots at a plaza located on Weston Road and Colossus Drive, close to Highway 7 and Highway 400, shortly after 1 p. m.
Upon arrival, they discovered a man who had been shot several times in the parking lot of a business. He was rushed to a nearby hospital with life-threatening injuries but later succumbed to them. The investigation is now under the purview of the homicide unit.
The police describe the suspect vehicle as a black SUV; however, no additional details have been released at this time.
Less than an hour later, authorities received another report of a vehicle fire near Kipling Avenue, just north of Woodbridge Avenue. They noted that this vehicle matched the description of the suspect’s car from the shooting and are trying to determine if there’s any connection between the two incidents.
Authorities believe this shooting was targeted and assure the public that there is no ongoing threat to safety.
