A number of House Republicans are feeling uneasy about President Donald Trump’s escalating threats to take military action in Greenland, which have raised concerns among NATO allies in recent days.

Rep. Dan Newhouse stated, “I’ve heard no compelling reason to support actions against NATO allies,” he told CNN. When asked if he fears that Trump’s interest in Greenland could upset the NATO alliance, Newhouse replied, “we’re risking that if we proceed much further.”

Rep. Don Bacon commented, “You don’t threaten allies and treat them that way, especially when they would cooperate with us at all times on anything we wanted to do there to begin with.”

Rep. Mark Alford expressed, “We have to maintain our integrity within NATO and maintain those relationships. I think the president’s on the right track, and what we should be doing is having a closer relationship with Greenland,” noting his visit to Denmark last year where he met with officials. “The way to go about it is through using our influence as a nation to try to persuade the people of Greenland that it’s in their best interest to separate from Denmark so that we can buy them.”

Rep. Richard Hudson said, “I’m not concerned that we’re gonna invade a NATO ally anytime soon.” He mentioned that he generally supports Trump’s trade policies but when pressed about possible tariffs on European allies regarding Greenland, he responded cautiously, “well, we’ll see.”

Rep. Buddy Carter was asked if he supported using military action in Greenland and replied, “look, this is a tool in the tool chest. Whether he’s just threatening or using it as leverage. Who knows?” Carter is currently running for US Senate in Georgia and seeking Trump’s endorsement.
