Ontario climate forecast: Snow squall warnings stay

Police responded to a number of collisions throughout southern Ontario on Saturday as heavy snowfall resulted in harmful driving circumstances.

In posts on social media, Ontario Provincial Police stated they’ve obtained a number of reviews of collisions, prompting them to induce drivers to keep away from journey.

No critical accidents have been reported from the collisions.

Snow squall warnings in southern Ontario remained in impact Saturday, with as a lot as 40 centimetres of snow anticipated to fall for components of the province this weekend.

Surroundings Canada says the snow is predicted to proceed into Sunday.

“Local additional snowfall amounts of 20 to 40 centimetres are likely, with higher amounts possible if snow squalls become stationary over one area. Snow squalls should diminish in intensity through the day Sunday,” Surroundings Canada stated.

“In addition, northwest winds gusting up to 60 km/h will result in areas of blowing snow and significantly reduced visibility at times.”

A climate advisory can be in impact for Kitchener and Waterloo, with native snowfall reaching as much as 15 centimetres.

“Snow squalls cause weather conditions to vary considerably; changes from clear skies to heavy snow within just a few kilometres are common,” Surroundings Canada says.

If visibility is diminished whereas Ontarians are out on the highway, Surroundings Canada urges motorists to decelerate, look out for tail lights forward and be able to cease.

“Prepare for quickly changing and deteriorating travel conditions,” the climate warning reads.

Surroundings Canada additionally issued a climate advisory for some areas east of the GTA, like Peterborough, Pickering and Oshawa, because the lake impact snow is predicted to blow inland on Saturday. Right here, snowfall between 5 to 10 centimetres is predicted.

As snow blankets components of southern Ontario, Toronto may anticipate some flurries over the weekend. Surroundings Canada forecasts about two centimetres of snow to blow via town Saturday afternoon with wind chill cooling temperatures to about -13. No climate advisories are at present in impact for Toronto.

The chilly climate is predicted to hold via into Sunday, with flurries forecast to finish that afternoon after winds attain speeds of as much as 40 km/h within the morning.
