Residents and businesses in the Village of Fredonia received a notice on Friday evening advising them to boil their water and save it until further updates.

As stated by state officials, “inadequately treated water has entered the water mains due to a treatment issue at the plant, and a water main break has caused water levels in the system to decrease rapidly.”

Any water intended for cooking or drinking should be boiled for at least three minutes and cooled before consumption. For conservation efforts, residents are encouraged to turn off the faucet while brushing teeth, shaving, or washing dishes. Only operate dishwashers or clothes washers when they are full.

No timeline was provided regarding when the boil order would be lifted. Residents or business owners with inquiries can contact the Village of Fredonia at (716) 679-2307. Facilities holding a Chautauqua County Health Department permit may reach out directly to the Health Department at (716) 753-4481.
