Severino joins an international free agency group that includes Juan Caricote, Michael Mesa, Sebastian Casanova, Gabriel Porras, and Ayberson Ortega. According to Baseball America, Toronto spent a total of $5,940,000 on these six players combined.

“Aneudy Severino, signing for $700,000, is a talented player with an unconventional look,” reads the scouting report. “At 5-foot-9, he’s on the shorter side but possesses a powerful build that’s extraordinarily strong for his age. His strength and bat speed allow him to drive the ball with high-end exit velocity from the right side of the plate-though his swing currently produces more line drives than loft.”
“Severino is an above-average runner; however, with his thicker body type potentially expanding as he grows older which could lead his speed to decline; there’s a good chance he moves towards an outfield corner.”
No matter his height at 5-foot-9, this doesn’t rule out Severino from making it in Major League Baseball. Currently on Toronto’s roster are Alejandro Kirk, Myles Straw, Davis Schneider and Daulton Varsho-all measuring between 5-foot-8 and 5-foot-9.
