An Air Canada flight had to change course and land at St. John’s International Airport in Newfoundland because of an ‘unruly passenger.’ As reported by , this incident took place late Friday night, February 6, when Air Canada flight AC858 left Toronto heading for London Heathrow on what was meant to be a regular overnight transatlantic trip. The Boeing aircraft was carrying 368 passengers when things escalated on board, leading the flight crew to redirect the plane to St. John’s, Newfoundland, where it landed unexpectedly on Saturday morning.

“The aircraft was met with authorities,” Air Canada informed , confirming that police were present upon landing. Posts on social media platforms like X suggested that passengers were instructed to “delete videos of the incident” and claimed that the individual involved was shouting threats during the flight.

Air Canada hasn’t commented on these claims or shared more details about what happened or who the passenger is, stating that law enforcement is now handling the situation.

CBC reported, citing Ryan Howell, a spokesperson for the St. John’s International Airport Authority, that the plane touched down around 8:00 a. m. Newfoundland Time.

Records show that the return flight left St. John’s around 4:00 p. m.
