Today marks the start of Pride Month in Oxford County with flag raising events in Woodstock, Tillsonburg, and Ingersoll.

OXFORD COUNTY – This month, Oxford County is embracing Pride by highlighting inclusion, diversity, and equity for everyone.

The Oxford County Pride Committee is launching the celebrations with the traditional raising of the rainbow progress pride flag.

Ceremonies are set to happen at Museum Square in Woodstock and South Broadway Parkette in Ingersoll at 9:00 a. m. this morning. Ingersoll’s ceremony will take place at Dewen Park starting at 12:00 p. m.

They will be hoisting the progress flag, which is an updated version of the pride flag. It features chevrons representing the transgender community colors-pink and blue-and also includes brown and black chevrons to honor people of color.

Several progress flags were reported missing in Norwich over the long weekend. Tami Murray, Chairperson of the Oxford County Pride Committee, wants to express gratitude to everyone who has shown support since then.

“I want to applaud Oxford County. We have received amazing emails and support, we have received through donations of close to $1,000 to replace the banners in Norwich, Ontario that got damaged.”

A variety of activities will take place throughout the month to celebrate the 2SLBGTQAI+ community and its allies.

The committee will host multiple Drag Storytime events on Saturday, June 4th. These will occur at Ingersoll Public Library at 11:00 a. m., Tillsonburg Public Library at 2:00 p. m., and Woodstock Public Library at 11:00 a. m.

The committee’s popular Family Day is scheduled for Saturday June 18th from 11:00 a. m. to 4:00 p. m. at Museum Square. An after party for adults aged 19 and older will be held at Upper Thames Brewing Company in Woodstock starting at 8:00 p. m. Both events are themed around the ’90s.

Tami Murray visited Heart FM studio yesterday morning for a chat with Dan and Marcie; you can listen to the full interview below.
