A northern Ontario man is in police custody charged with tried homicide after an argument escalated right into a stabbing over the weekend.


Officers within the fly-in group of Webequie First Nation, north of Thunder Bay, had been referred to as to an early morning assault Oct. 19, Nishnawbe Aski Police mentioned in a information launch.


“An investigation revealed a female and male who had been identified to one another had been on College Street once they turned concerned in an altercation,” police mentioned.


“The altercation turned bodily and the feminine was allegedly assaulted by the male accused.”


Police mentioned they could not elaborate on the character of the person and woman’s relationship.


“The sufferer sustained severe accidents in keeping with a stabbing and was initially handled for these accidents on the group nursing station,” police mentioned.


“Because of the severity of her accidents, the sufferer was transported to Thunder Bay for additional analysis and remedy of these accidents.”


As of Sunday, she was nonetheless in hospital and the extent of her accidents is unknown.


“I can affirm that the try homicide investigation has no hyperlinks to the drug commerce,” Scott Paradis, a spokesperson for the Nishnawbe Aski Police Service, advised CTVNewsNorthernOntario.ca in an e-mail Tuesday morning.


The male suspect was arrested Saturday night and charged with tried homicide, possession of a weapon for a harmful goal and 4 counts of failing to adjust to a launch order.


He was remanded after an look in bail court docket Sunday.
