On February 9th, 2025 at about 4:59 p. m., officers from the Thunder Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were monitoring speeds along Highway 11-17 near Mc Kenzie Station Road, within the Municipality of Shuniah.
They noticed a vehicle going 131 km/h in a posted limit of 90 km/h, prompting them to pull it over. During the investigation, a Standardized Field Sobriety Test (SFST) was administered, and the driver didn’t perform well. The driver was then arrested for failing the SFST and for having outstanding warrants, before being taken back to the detachment for further testing.

Criminal Code:
Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs;
Provincial Offences:
Speeding 1 – 49 Km/h over posted limit;
The accused is currently in custody awaiting a bail hearing and is set to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Thunder Bay on January 10th, 2026.
