Ontario’s Particular Investigations Unit (SIU) is investigating a capturing involving police that came about close to Thunder Bay this week.

The SIU mentioned the capturing occurred within the space of Freeway 11/17 and Pebblestone Highway at about 2:15 p.m. Thursday.

In a media launch, the SIU mentioned that preliminary info suggests police obtained 911 calls from drivers travelling within the space, reporting a person with a shotgun strolling on the freeway.

Responding officers positioned the 58-year-old man, the SIU mentioned. The company mentioned the person fired his gun, hitting the police cruiser.

An officer then shot the person, the SIU mentioned, who was taken to hospital with a “critical harm.”

No officers had been injured. An replace on the person’s situation was not out there on Friday.

The SIU has recognized one topic and one witness officer. It is assigned three investigators, and two forensic investigators.

No additional particulars have but been offered.

In a media launch, Thunder Bay police mentioned they can not present additional particulars, because the SIU has invoked its mandate.
