A former church manse will be transformed into a hotel, with more planned

THUNDER BAY – A demolition team has swiftly taken down a house to pave the way for yet another new hotel in Thunder Bay.

The old Lakeview Presbyterian Church manse, located at 15 Royston Court near St. Joseph’s Hospital, was completely demolished by noon on Monday.

This site is designated for a three-storey, 24-unit Lux Suites boutique hotel.

It’s one of three projects under the Lux Suites brand.

A four-storey, 27-unit extended-stay hotel is set to rise on Red River Road where the Highview Animal Clinic currently stands; the clinic will be moving to Macdonell Street.

On the southern part of the city, a three-storey, 24-unit Lux Suites is almost finished at Edward Street and Redwood Avenue.

Among other upcoming hotel developments in Thunder Bay, a six-storey Hyatt House recently opened its doors last week on Oliver Road at Burwood.

Other new projects currently being planned include a six-storey Holiday Inn Express and Candlewood Suites proposed for the same area but across from Oliver Road, along with a six-storey Fairfield Inn hotel on Arthur Street close to the Valhalla Hotel.
