Going through win-or-go-home video games, Thunder Bay skips pull off key wins on Thursday night time on the Northern Ontario Males’s Curling Championship.

THUNDER BAY – If Frank Morissette and Chris Silver have a theme music from right here on out, it’s most likely the Bee Gees’ basic Stayin’ Alive.

Each skips confronted elimination on Thursday night time, having already misplaced twice at this week’s Northern Ontario Males’s Curling Championship, the triple-knockout format leaving them no extra room for error, understanding one other loss would ship them packing.

Morissette, the artful veteran whose lone Brier look got here 49 years in the past, in 1976, wanted solely eight ends to finish North Bay skip Brad Minogue’s week, scoring three within the sixth and 4 within the eighth to advance with a 12-2 win on the Port Arthur Curling Membership, house of this week’s playdowns.

Silver had virtually as straightforward a time sending Kenora’s Dustin Kroeker packing along with his third lack of the occasion, scoring deuces within the fourth, seventh and eighth ends on his strategy to a 9-2 triumph that earned him an opportunity to stay to see one other day.

Morissette, who earlier within the day gained one other elimination match, scoring three within the ninth to tug out a 7-6 win over North Bay’s Matthew Hunt.

“The first few games, we had nothing going for us, particularly well. We just didn’t play as well as we should have bee,” the 73-year-old stated.

“Tonight, we played a really good game and it was nice to have a good one for a chance, having the lead. It’s the first time we’ve had (a big) lead since we’ve started.”

Morissette, his staff together with lead Gary Champagne, second Kris Leupen and third Pat Berezowski, jumped out in entrance 2-0 with a deuce within the second, then added two extra and took a 4-2 lead into the fifth-end break.

It was all Morissette from there on in.

“We know we can play and it’s just a matter of getting our shots together and making the shots one after another. Tonight was a good game.”

Group Morissette will tackle Thunder Bay’s Zach Warkentin of their subsequent outing, the elimination match for each groups scheduled for Friday at 2 p.m.

Silver, who performs Thunder Bay’s Gary Weiss on Friday afternoon, put loads of rocks in play in opposition to Kroeker, and it led to a steal of 1 within the second, as they constructed a 4-1 lead by means of the break. Kroeker acquired one again within the sixth, however gave up two within the seventh and a steal of two extra within the eighth, which led to handshakes.

It’s do or die time, Silver stated.

“I think it was a tighter game than it might have looked, but I think we played a lot better than we have the last few games,” he stated.

“The last couple of games, we blew leads in both games, but I’m really proud of the guys with how we stuck together.”

Silver, lead Travis Showalter, second Brayden Sinclair and third Owen Riches, stated the mentality now is just not letting ends get away from them.

“We’ve got to treat every rock like it’s the shot that will keep us in it, like it’s the last rock of the game. We have to keep the focus and intensity up for the whole game and make sure we don’t have any bad ends. And if we miss one, we’ve got to make sure we make the next one.”

Motion continues on Friday morning at 9:30 a.m., with attracts at 2 p.m. and seven p.m. Defending males’s champion Trevor Bonot will probably be on the ice within the morning draw in opposition to Thunder Bay’s Brian Adams Jr.
