THUNDER BAY – WEATHER Focus – A winter system is moving through Northwestern Ontario today, bringing new snow from Dryden and Kenora all the way to Thunder Bay.

The main concern after the snowfall is the chance of freezing drizzle tonight into Monday, which can create a thin, hard-to-see layer of ice on untreated roads, sidewalks, and parking areas.

Temperatures will also be milder on Monday, which could lead to “slippery” conditions as the snow settles and refreezes.

Kenora & Lake of the Woods Region

Morning: Light snow with -16°C and wind chill around -25

Today: Snow starting early with 5-10 cm expected. High near -11°C.

Tonight: Snow will ease late, followed by a 60% chance of light snow along with freezing drizzle risk.

Dryden & Vermilion Bay

Morning: Partly cloudy at about -21°C with wind chill near -25

Today: Snow begins this morning with an expected accumulation of 5-10 cm. High near -12°C.

Tonight: Snow continues along with a possibility of freezing drizzle overnight.

Thunder Bay

Morning: Mostly cloudy around -22°C (wind chill close to -25)

Today: Some sunshine early, then clouds increase as snow starts this afternoon (around 2 cm). High near -10°C.

Tonight: Expect continued snowfall with about 5 cm more possible, alongside a risk of freezing drizzle overnight.

Expected Conditions Over the Next Three Days

Monday, January 5

Kenora: Cloudy skies with a 40% chance of light snow and potential for freezing drizzle, high at -6°C

Dryden/Vermilion Bay: Cloudy conditions featuring a 40% chance of light snow and risk of freezing drizzle, high at -6°C

Thunder Bay: Cloudy weather with a 40% chance of light snow and potential for freezing drizzle, high reaching -4°C
