The regional ambulance service is getting a 13 per cent enhance in funding from the province.

THUNDER BAY – It’s “a spectacular announcement for our service,” Superior North EMS chief Shane Muir mentioned Wednesday after Thunder Bay-Atikokan MPP Kevin Holland introduced a 13 per cent enhance for land ambulance funding.

“With this boost in funding, our service will continue to acquire essential equipment (and) ambulances and enhance our service delivery for all the communities we serve,” Muir mentioned.

Operated by the Metropolis of Thunder Bay, Superior North EMS has response stations in 13 different district communities, from Upsala to Terrace Bay.

It employs greater than 200 paramedics and has a fleet of practically 50 autos to serve a inhabitants of about 160,000.

“Our government’s 13 per cent increase in land ambulance funding will help municipalities manage rising costs while ensuring high-quality emergency services,” mentioned Holland, additionally an affiliate minister in Premier Doug Ford’s cupboard.

The 13 per cent enhance brings the province’s funding for Superior North ambulance companies this yr to $18.96 million, based on Holland.

Holland additionally introduced extra funding in Thunder Bay by the province’s Devoted Offload Nurses Program to rent extra nurses and different well being professionals devoted to processing ambulance sufferers at hospital emergency departments.

Holland mentioned the province is continuous implementation of the Medical Precedence Dispatch System, which Muir mentioned has improved effectivity at Superior North EMS.

The dispatch system has been put in place at EMS centres in Kenora, Ottawa, Mississauga and Renfrew in addition to Thunder Bay, and will likely be carried out at 15 extra dispatch websites throughout Ontario, based on a information launch from Holland’s workplace.
