The University of Northern Colorado baseball team is set to begin its 2026 season in mid-February with a long road trip before playing at home for the first time a month later during their initial Summit League series.
The regular season, consisting of 52 games, will kick off with a four-game nonconference series from February 13-15 at Wichita State. The Bears will be on the road for 17 games until mid-March. UNC’s home opener is scheduled for March 13-15 against Summit League rival St. Thomas at Jackson Field in Greeley.
During spring break, the team will face third-ranked Arkansas from the SEC on March 17-18 in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
A majority of the Bears’ upcoming schedule will feature Summit League contests, starting March 20-22 at home versus the University of Nebraska Omaha and continuing into mid-May. This period includes home-and-home nonconference matchups against the Air Force Academy, with the Bears traveling to Colorado Springs on April 8 and hosting the Falcons on April 28.
The four-team Summit League Tournament will take place May 20-23 in St. Paul, Minnesota.
Last year, the Bears finished with an overall record of 18-33 and were 9-21 in the Summit League, missing out on qualifying for the league tournament.
For this spring season, UNC’s roster consists of 36 players including nine from the Greeley area: sophomore Lucas Stone, a left-handed pitcher from Eaton and Eaton High School; graduate transfer Logan Moser from Eaton who previously played at the University of Mary; senior outfielder Jaden Stone, Lucas’s brother also from Eaton; redshirt freshman Mitch Haythorn from Eaton who started his collegiate career at Oklahoma; redshirt sophomore Tate Smith, a right-handed pitcher from Eaton who has played for teams at Sam Houston State and Oklahoma State; freshman infielder Ethan Fillinger hailing from Greeley and Windsor High; junior right-handed pitcher Mason Bright from Severance and Severance High; and freshman outfielder Mason Griffin from Windsor and Fossil Ridge High.
Moser, Jaden Stone, Lucas Stone, Haythorn and Smith were all part of state championship teams at Eaton.
Bears head coach Mike Anderson is originally from Eaton and played at UNC between 1983-86.
