The Chatham Maroons forward came through again on Sunday with two goals in the third period that pushed the game into overtime against the St. Thomas Stars.

Unfortunately for the Maroons, his late-game efforts weren’t enough to secure a win as they lost 6-5 in front of 915 fans at Chatham Memorial Arena.

“Everyone in that room wants to be that player that ties the game up or takes the game-winning goal,” said Chadwick, 18. “I went out there and I wanted to be that guy. I wanted to be the guy that would score those goals.

“It was fortunate enough to be me tonight, but I can’t do it without my linemates and my teammates. Everyone (is) involved, it’s not just me. It’s the whole team.”

The Western Conference-leading Maroons relied on Chadwick’s two late goals during a comeback attempt after trailing 5-3.

He scored during a power play at 11:23 and then netted another at 17:06.

“It sucks going down in games and fighting to come back,” Chadwick said. “Sometimes it doesn’t go your way, but I’m really proud of the group (for) how we battled back at the end of the third. It’s not easy.”

The Maroons ended up with just one point when Stars forward Eloan Le Gallic scored his second goal of the night just over a minute into overtime.

Chadwick found something positive despite the loss.

“It just shows resilience,” he said. “That’s what we’re going to take away from this game.”
