To celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Chapel, come join us from November 18 to 20, 2025 for a Symposium (Sustaining Hope and Seeking Justice in Challenging Times), Faculty of Divinity Special Convocation, Conference (Sacred Space: Conflicts and Convergences) & Special Concert & Anniversary Choral Evensong, and Lecture (2025 Larkin Stuart Lecture with Professor Matthew J. Milliner).

Trinity College Chapel: For the first three decades at its ‘new’ spot on Hoskin Avenue, chapel services were held in Seeley Hall, which was originally intended as the Library Reading Room. Construction on the current chapel began in 1953; it was finished in 1955 and consecrated on November 20, 1955. The chapel was a donation to the College from businessman Gerald Larkin (1885-1961), who played a key role in bringing many Canadian artists to contribute to the building’s decorative elements. November 2025: Open Doors, Shared Voices: The Trinity Chapel at 70. Since its consecration on November 20, 1955, Trinity Chapel has continued to be the spiritual and communal center of the College.

Symposium & Special Convocation

Sustaining Hope and Seeking Justice in Challenging Times posterOn Tuesday, November 18: kick off our celebration for the chapel’s milestone anniversary with a special multi-faith symposium focused on Sustaining Hope and Seeking Justice in Challenging Times.

The symposium will feature The Right Rev. Michael Curry, former Presiding Bishop of the Episcopal Church (2015-2024), along with The Most Rev. Linda Nicholls, former Primate of the Anglican Church of Canada (2019-2024). It will also include a panel featuring notable leaders from Jewish and Buddhist communities.

A Special Convocation Ceremony will take place afterward in Trinity College Chapel where Bishop Michael Curry and Archbishop Linda Nicholls will be honored for their church leadership by receiving honorary doctoral degrees. The Faculty of Divinity has received special permission from the University of Toronto allowing Divinity students to graduate during this ceremony-an exceptional opportunity alongside our regular convocation set for May 2026.

These events are free as part of our tribute to mark this significant milestone at Trinity – register here.
