The Fraser Institute has released its school report card, ranking public, private, and Catholic schools in Ontario based on their test results. Eight schools from our area have achieved perfect scores.
Approximately 3,000 elementary schools across Ontario were evaluated in this report.
The rankings are derived from nine indicators based on EQAO test results.

In total, 31 schools in the province earned a perfect score, with eight located right here in our region. They include:
Hamilton’s Corpus Christi Catholic Elementary School; Oakville’s Alfajrul Bassem Academy and Forest Trail Public School; Applewood Public School and Gracefield Public School in St. Catharines; St. David’s Public School in St. David’s, Ont.; Kate S Durdan Public School in Niagara Falls; and Plymouth Public School in Welland, Ont.
The Fraser Institute states that it employs these ranking criteria because they offer “systematic insight into a school’s performance.”
The Report Card also serves as a resource for parents to understand how well their child’s school is performing.

The think tank notes that the data indicates schools can improve regardless of their location or characteristics.
The report highlights that Burleigh Hill Public School in St. Catharines is among the fastest improving schools, increasing its score from four-point-five in 2018 to nine-point-nine by 2024.
On the other end of the spectrum, the Fraser Institute also lists the lowest performing schools.
According to this ranking, a couple of Brantford schools received a score of zero, including Centennial-Grand Woodlands Public School and Princess Elizabeth Public School.
