On Dec. 19, 2023 at 1:58 a.m., 1 District (St. Catharines / Thorold) uniform officers from the Niagara Regional Police Service responded to a house in St. Catharines for a report of a capturing.
Officers attended a residential residence on Catherines Avenue close to Hetherington Avenue. A 19-year-old male sufferer was situated there with gunshot wounds. The sufferer was handled by Niagara Emergency Medical Companies paramedics and was transported to an out of area hospital in severe situation.
As results of the preliminary investigation officers decided that sufferer had exited his residence and was confronted by a male suspect in a close-by alleyway. The male suspect shot the sufferer. The suspect ran from the realm. A NRPS K9 Unit attended the scene, however a suspect was not situated.
The continued investigation led officers to establish a suspect and a potential residence on Louth Avenue close to Chetwood Avenue in St. Catharines.
Detectives from the 1 District detective workplace had been assigned to the investigation. 1 District uniform officers and the K9 Unit attended and contained the Louth Avenue tackle. Officers from the NRPS Emergency Process Unit had been additionally referred to as to the Louth Avenue home. At 4:16 a.m. the suspect exited the home and surrendered to officers.
Taeshaun Haynes (18 years previous) of St. Catharines has been arrested and charged with the Felony Code offences of:
• Aggravated assault
• Discharge firearm with intent
• Careless use of firearm
• Unauthorized possession of a firearm
• Possession of a firearm understanding its possession is unauthorized
• Possession of a prohibited / restricted firearm with ammunition
• Possession of firearm opposite to prohibition order
Haynes was held in custody for a video bail listening to to the Robert S. Okay. Welch Courthouse in St. Catharines on Dec. 19, 2023.
The Catherine Avenue scene has been launched following a forensic examination by detectives from the NRPS Forensic Companies Unit. The Louth Avenue home is being held pending a search warrant. The accused and sufferer had been recognized to one another. There are not any suspects believed to be excellent and no ongoing risk to the general public security stemming from this incident.
