Round 20 South Simcoe Law enforcement officials attended the forty seventh annual Canadian Police and Peace Officers’ Memorial Service in Ottawa on Sunday with three fallen constables of their hearts.
The memorial service honoured officers from across the nation who misplaced their lives within the line of obligation, which meant that the group from South Simcoe Police made the journey to honour Constables Morgan Russell, Devon Northrup and Alan Kuzmich.
“It is one thing that we’re proud to do yearly simply to honour them and to pay our respects,” stated Detective-Constable Dan Raymond from South Simcoe Police in a telephone interview with Ontario Chronicle.
Constables Russell and Northrup tragically misplaced their lives on October 11, 2022, whereas responding to a disturbance name. Constable Kuzmich was killed within the line of obligation on August 21, 2002, whereas responding to a motorbike theft.
Earlier this week, dozens of first responders honoured the fallen officers by taking part within the annual Run to Bear in mind, a 430-kilometre relay run from Toronto to Ottawa that concluded with Sunday’s memorial service.
“The entire weekend for us is a fairly sombre reminder of them being round and simply the legacy that they are abandoning with us,” added Detective-Constable Raymond.
South Simcoe Police will maintain a memorial ceremony on Friday, October 11, to commemorate Constables Russell and Northrup. The duo and Constable Kuzmich can even be honoured on the annual Ontario Police Memorial in Could.
