On Saturday afternoon, the Ontario Provincial Police announced a shelter-in-place order in Simcoe due to an ongoing situation involving “potentially armed individuals,” according to their statement.
Police reported that officers were dispatched to the vicinity of Kent and Union streets just before 1 p. m. after receiving a call about a possible shot being fired. Consequently, Colborne Street North, Union Street, Young Street, and Kent Street were shut down.
The order was lifted at 8:20 p. m.
The OPP Tactics and Rescue Unit along with Emergency Response Team members, OPP Canine Services, and Crisis Negotiators supported the investigation, which remains ongoing. Thankfully, there were no reports of injuries.
