Earlier on Saturday afternoon, the Ontario Provincial Police put a shelter-in-place order in effect in Simcoe due to an ongoing situation involving “potentially armed individuals,” according to a statement.
Officers were dispatched to the vicinity of Kent and Union streets just before 1 p. m. following a report of what appeared to be a gunshot. As a result, Colborne Street North, Union Street, Young Street, and Kent Street were all closed off.
By 8:20 p. m., the order was rescinded.
The OPP Tactics and Rescue Unit, along with members of the Emergency Response Team, OPP Canine Services, and Crisis Negotiators helped with the investigation, which remains ongoing. Fortunately, there have been no reports of injuries.
If anyone has information that could help investigators, they are encouraged to reach out to the Norfolk County OPP at 1-888-310-1122. If you’d prefer to stay anonymous, contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS) or visit ontariocrimestoppers. ca.
