OPP officers were called to a crash on Tuesday morning on Highway 69 in French River; the driver and one passenger suffered serious injuries.

A 23-year-old man from Barrie lost his life Tuesday morning in a single-vehicle accident in northern Ontario.

Officers from the Nipissing West OPP’s Sudbury detachment arrived at the scene of the collision on Highway 69 in French River around 8 a. m. on June 9.

According to police, one passenger was declared dead at the scene, while the driver and another passenger were taken to a local hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

The vehicle was heading northbound when the crash occurred, as reported by the OPP.

The highway was shut down in both directions for nearly nine hours.

An investigation is ongoing with help from the OPP Technical Collision Investigation and Reconstruction teams to find out what caused the crash.

If anyone witnessed the incident or has dashcam footage from that time, they’re asked to reach out to the OPP at 1-888-310-1122. To remain anonymous, tips can be sent to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or online at ontariocrimestoppers. ca. The occurrence reference is E260796769.
