Police claim a 50-year-old man was involved in sexual assaults this year and in 2020; they believe there may be additional victims.
Provincial police report that a 50-year-old man is facing charges after two recent investigations into sexual assault.
In a statement released today, Nottawasaga OPP indicated that officers started looking into the case on Sept. 1 after receiving a report of an alleged sexual assault that took place in Beeton.
A few days later, on Sept. 5, authorities launched a second investigation regarding a historical sexual assault from 2020, also said to have happened in Beeton, which is situated about 50 kilometers southwest of Barrie.
Following these inquiries, the OPP announced that Gordon Mattison, 50, from Beeton, has been charged with two counts each of sexual assault, sexual interference and luring someone under 14 years old via telecommunication. The accused was taken into custody and later released.
The allegations have yet to be proven in court.
He is set to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in early October.
Investigators also suspect there may be more potential victims. During both alleged incidents, the accused and the victims were part of the same residential community in Beeton, according to police.
If anyone has information regarding this case, they’re encouraged to reach out to Nottawasaga OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or anonymously contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
