The County of Simcoe has acquired a parcel of land positioned in Innisfil by way of a beneficiant donation made by the Sinclair household. The 17.1-hectare tract, which can be known as ‘Montclair Woods’, is positioned close to the Yonge Road and Killarney Seaside Street intersection in Innisfil and can be protected for future generations as a part of the Simcoe County Forest.

“We are extremely grateful to the Sinclair family for this incredible gift,” stated Warden Basil Clarke. “This tract is a wonderful piece of land and will be a fantastic addition to the Simcoe County Forest. The Montclair Tract will serve as a public forest in the southern part of our region for many years to come.”

Mr. & Mrs. Keith and Ruth Sinclair and household gathered on the Simcoe County Museum on Friday, October 4 to rejoice the donation with a ceremony and signal unveiling. This isn’t the primary time, nevertheless, that this household has contributed to the expansion of the County Forest. The ‘Sinclair Tract’, a big forested property positioned throughout the neighborhood of Bradford West Gwillimbury, was acquired from Keith’s father, Robert Sinclair, in 1957. As part of the farming neighborhood in south Simcoe for a few years, the Sinclair household clearly understands the worth of retaining wholesome forests for at this time and tomorrow.

Spanning greater than 33,000 acres, the Simcoe County Forest is the most important and probably the most productive municipal forests in Ontario. The County obtained nationwide honours by being acknowledged because the Forest Capital of Canada for 2022 by the Canadian Institute of Forestry, the second time receiving the designation. The County of Simcoe was additionally the primary jurisdiction to enter the ‘Agreement Forest’ program again in 1922 and since then has invested numerous assets into rising, restoring, and defending this unbelievable useful resource.

The Montclair Woods can be open to the general public at a later date as soon as enough parking and entry are established.
