Police Week is happening from May 10-16, 2026, and the South Simcoe Police Service is excited to join forces with others across the province to recognize how police and civilian members keep their communities safe. This year’s theme, Protecting Ontario through Service, shines a light on the vital work done by police services. It also celebrates policing as a career and highlights how these services collaborate with community members and partners to maintain safety across our province. Police Week was first celebrated in 1970. Since then, Ontario’s police services and community members have come together to honor the hard work of both officers and civilian staff who contribute every day. To mark Police Week, the South Simcoe Police Service will host two open houses this week. This is a chance for locals to meet our team and learn about our service and specialized units. Auxiliary officers will guide tours of both our North and South Divisions. <p attendees can talk to dispatch personnel, sit in a police cruiser, explore classic cars as well as ATV and motorcycle equipment – meet our K9 officer Nitro – and see our Mounted Unit featuring two horses provided by Briarwood Farm for ceremonial use. There’ll be lots of opportunities for photos with members of the South Simcoe Police Service. “Strong communities are built through connection, collaboration and trust. During Police Week, we recognize the commitment of our members and the partnerships that help support safe communities in Innisfil and Bradford. We are grateful for the continued support of our community members and look forward to welcoming the public to our open houses to connect, engage and learn more about the work we do together each day to keep our communities safe,” says Chief John Van Dyke from South Simcoe Police Service.
