Provincial police have ended a shelter-in-place order on Saturday in Simcoe, Ont., which had been issued while officers dealt with an active situation involving potentially several armed individuals.

In a news release on Saturday, Ontario Provincial Police stated that Colborne Street N., Union Street, Young Street, and Kent Street were closed as part of an ongoing investigation.

According to an update from Saturday, the OPP responded to a call around 12:58 p. m. at a Kent Street N. location regarding reports of weapons where it was suspected that a firearm had been fired.

No injuries were reported, and the police continue their investigation, as noted in Saturday’s update from the OPP.

The public in the vicinity was urged to take shelter immediately, secure all doors and windows, draw curtains or blinds, and go directly to their destination if they were driving, according to Saturday’s release from the OPP.

Provincial police also advised residents not to approach or engage with the suspect and not to pick up hitchhikers.

Those who were outside of the affected area were asked to avoid traveling there. The OPP indicated that people should expect an increased police presence.

“We recognize the significant emotional impact that receiving a shelter in place can cause,” the OPP said in Saturday’s release. “The OPP is taking every precaution necessary to resolve this situation.”

Anyone with information is encouraged to contact law enforcement.
