Norfolk County OPP are looking into the death of a 71-year-old woman from Simcoe as a homicide.
Barbara Morgan was discovered dead at her home on Head Street South on Sunday, Oct. 5 morning.
Officers from Norfolk County OPP responded to a 911 call shortly after 10:30 a. m. at the residence.
The home is situated on Head Street, between the Simcoe Town Centre Mall and the Simcoe fairgrounds.
A post mortem is planned for Monday, Oct. 6 (today), according to Norfolk OPP.
Initial details indicate that this homicide appears to be an isolated case with no signs of any wider threat to the community, Norfolk OPP stated in their release.
Nonetheless, police are actively investigating and keeping an eye on developments.
The public can expect an increased police presence around Head Street South.
“While there is no known risk to the wider community at this time, members of the public are encouraged to stay alert and report any suspicious activity to police as a precaution,” said police.

No information has been given by police regarding any suspects or arrests related to the woman’s death.
The Norfolk County OPP crime unit is continuing its investigation under guidance from the OPP criminal investigation branch. The Office of the Chief Coroner, along with the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service in Toronto and OPP forensic identification services are also involved in this case, according to officials.

This marks the second homicide reported in Norfolk County in 2025.
A previous incident involved Melissa Earls, 52, from Simcoe, who died on April 22, 2025. Her daughter Megan Pearson has been charged with second-degree murder.
Additionally, Marlene Wilson’s murder from Waterford in 2023 remains unsolved as a cold case now.
Marlene was stabbed three times in the chest early on Feb. 12, 2023 while she was asleep upstairs in her home shared with her daughter and two grandsons along with a live-in caregiver.
Her grandson Jordaine Wilson was arrested five days later and charged with second-degree murder but was recently acquitted by jury verdicts.
