Norfolk County OPP are looking into the murder of a woman in Simcoe that occurred on Sunday.

Officers responded to a home on Head Street South shortly after 10:30 a. m. following a 911 call and discovered the body of the woman.

She has been named as 71-year-old Barbara Morgan from Simcoe. A postmortem examination is set for Monday.

Neighbors mentioned that Morgan lived with a man who might have been staying in her basement.

The Norfolk County OPP Crime Unit is handling the investigation under the guidance of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch, working alongside the Office of the Chief Coroner and Ontario Forensic Pathology Service in Toronto.

“Preliminary information suggests this is an isolated incident, with no indication of a broader threat,” said Const. Ed Sanchuk with Norfolk OPP. “However, police continue to investigate and are actively monitoring the situation. While there is no known risk to the wider community at this time, members of the public are encouraged to stay alert and report any suspicious activity to police as a precaution.

Authorities have not yet provided details on how Morgan died but assure that there is no threat to public safety.

Residents can expect an increased police presence in their area.

If anyone has information, they are asked to contact Norfolk County OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or Ontario Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS) if they wish to remain anonymous.
