Norfolk County Holiday Service Hours Announced

The holiday period often brings time off for many employees, but certain shops and eateries in Simcoe will stay open on Christmas Day. It’s wise to check ahead to avoid driving around looking for open places.

If you can’t enjoy a big festive meal on Christmas Day, here are a few alternatives to think about. Wimpy’s Diner at 109 Queensway East will be serving from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., while Wild Wings (take-out), and Tim Hortons on Norfolk St. S. and in Port Dover have also posted that they will be open on social media. The McDonald’s drive-thru on the Queensway will also operate on Christmas Day from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m.

A complimentary Christmas dinner will be available at Delhi United Church, located at 105 Church Street West. Doors will open at 11:30 a.m., with dinner served at noon on Christmas Day. Other organizations are also providing free meals but reservations are necessary.

Shoppers Drug Mart in Simcoe will have holiday hours – from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. – on Christmas Day and will also welcome customers on Boxing Day.

Most major retail stores plan to be open on Boxing Day.

In Norfolk County, most municipal offices will shut down starting at 4:30 p.m. on December 24 and won’t reopen until Friday, January 2 at 8:30 a.m. This includes the County Administration Building, the Province Offences Court located within the Robinson Administration Building in Simcoe, as well as ServiceNorfolk.

If there are urgent matters concerning parks and facilities, roads, sewers, drainage, water and forestry issues call 1-877-298-5888. For non-urgent requests for services can be submitted anytime via Service.NorfolkCounty.ca. After-hours By-law Enforcement concerns should go through the OPP non-emergency line at 1-800-310-1122.

The Dunnville and Simcoe Social Services and Housing offices will also close during this time; however crisis assistance like emergency shelter can be arranged by calling the Victim Services Support Line at 1-800-264-6671.

If you want to celebrate New Year’s Day with some fun events, join the Captain’s Polar Bear Levee at the Port Dover Harbour Museum starting at 1 p.m.. Those seeking adventure might want to participate in the Polar Bear Dip scheduled for 1 p.m.at Port Dover beach. Meanwhile, both the Norfolk County Archives and most other museums in the area will close their doors from December 24 until January 3.

All branches of the Norfolk County Public Library will remain closed on both Christmas Day and New Year’s Day but they’ll be operating from 10 a.m.to2 p.m.on December 24 and31st respectively.On Saturday,Dcember27th,every branch is set to operate between10a.and5.p..On Monday,Dcember29th,theSimcoeBranchwillbeopenfrom10a.and7.p..Regular hourswillresumeonJanuary2nd,and electronic resources such aseBooks,audiobooks,onlinetraining,and streaming serviceswillbeavailable round-the-clockatncpl.ca
