A fishing journey on a windy day become a harrowing ice rescue close to the northeastern tip of Innisfil.
On Friday at about 12:30 p.m., Innisfil Fireplace and Rescue Companies crews have been referred to as to an space of Lake Simcoe close to the thirtieth Sideroad, simply off Large Bay Level, after a “lone male” grew to become trapped on an ice floe roughly 450 metres from shore.
“When he walked out, there was ice at the shoreline,” Innisfil Deputy Fireplace Chief Brent Black stated. “He walked out with a sled carrying his fishing tools.
“Whereas out fishing, the wind picked up and broke the ice up, ensuing (in) him being on an ice floe separated from shore by open water.”
As Innisfil firefighters strapped on gear and ready to exit onto the water with their Fortuna boat, they requested help from Barrie Fireplace and Emergency Service, which has a hovercraft, as a result of great amount of open water.
“Our crews made contact with the fisherman, who was uninjured and dry. He then accessed our Fortuna boat and they waited for the arrival of Barrie Fire as they were at this time close by,” Black stated.
“As soon as Barrie Fireplace arrived on scene, the affected person then went with them within the hovercraft,” he added. “They then introduced him again to shore on the thirtieth Sideroad authorities dock.”
County of Simcoe paramedics have been ready on the shoreline, however the man refused medical consideration.
“He was at no point submerged in the open water; he remained on the ice shelf and was safe,” Black stated. “Our crews then paddled back to shore in our Fortuna and began the clean up of our equipment.”
