Lake effect snow and strong winds are creating another hazardous day in midwestern Ontario.

Environment Canada is recommending that people avoid unnecessary travel in the area on Thursday, as a yellow-level snow squall warning is active for Grey-Bruce, along with a blowing snow advisory for Huron County, Perth County, and northern Wellington County.

The weather alert for Grey-Bruce indicates that an additional 20 to 40 centimetres of snow could fall from Thursday to Friday.

The other regions will experience much lower totals, with lake effect flurries expected to bring just 2 to 4 centimetres throughout the day.

Winds may gust up to 60 kilometres an hour, leading to blowing and drifting snow.

“The blowing snow will be most pronounced in open and wind exposed areas,” Environment Canada said. “Consider postponing non-essential travel until conditions improve. If driving, turn on your lights, slow down and maintain a safe following distance.”

All school buses in Grey-Bruce and North Wellington have been canceled for the day, along with several in Huron-Perth. This marks the fourth consecutive day of widespread bus cancellations across the region. You can find the full list of cancellations and road closures by clicking here.

Environment Canada expects that snow squalls will again pose a challenge for midwestern Ontario on Friday.
