This Mother’s Day weekend, kids have a chance to do something fun and budget-friendly.
Saturday and Sunday mark another free fishing weekend in Ontario. If you want to take Mom out fishing, you don’t need to buy a licence or Outdoors Card first.
“Fishing is a great way for families to make unforgettable memories while enjoying the outdoors,” said Mike Harris, Ontario Minister of Natural Resources. “Free fishing weekends are an opportunity to check out Ontario’s top‑notch fishing and take part in a timeless tradition that brings people together right across the province.”
Just remember, you’re still responsible for any catch and possession limits, along with restrictions in sanctuaries and conservation areas as outlined by the provincial fishing regulations.
Anyone taking part in a free fishing weekend must carry a government-issued ID showing their name and date of birth.
The Ministry reports there are 1.3 million licensed anglers in Ontario who spend about $2.4 billion annually.
Ontario also has free fishing weekends planned for Father’s Day weekend in June, and Family Fishing Week from June 27 to July 5.
