The Importance of Early Missing Persons Reports

Sarnia police emphasize that reporting missing persons promptly is crucial when it comes to high-risk individuals such as those suffering from dementia or those who may wander off.

According to police statements made during Alzheimer’s awareness month this January, six out of ten people living with dementia are susceptible to wandering away and getting lost.

“Even individuals in early-stage dementia who seem capable and independent can be at increased risk due to confusion, anxiety and disorientation,” said law enforcement representatives.

“Contact the police immediately if you realize someone you care about is missing and you’re worried for their safety,” they added while stressing there’s no waiting period for filing a missing person report. “Delay can greatly affect these investigations.”

Sarnia city police handled three hundred forty missing person cases last year.
