As you were, Plympton-Wyoming.

All current members were re-elected during Monday’s election in the community of 8,300 residents next to Sarnia.

Gary Atkinson, who previously served as a councillor before becoming mayor in 2022 after the retirement of long-time mayor Lonny Napper, secured a second term on Monday with 2,061 votes against challenger Tim Wilkins who received 1,633 votes.

“I’m pleased to see all of council is back,” Atkinson remarked. “We listened to the voters.”

Council still has “lots to do, and I’m looking forward to the next four years,” he added.

“First off, I want to ensure we have operational efficiency,” Atkinson stated. “We need to keep focusing on infrastructure-whether it’s water, sewer, roads… and also continue with economic development.”

A key focus will be redeveloping a Reece’s Corners plaza that was purchased by the municipality, he mentioned.

Deputy Mayor Netty Mc Ewen was re-elected with 2,430 votes while challenger Brad Zantingh garnered 1,120 votes.

The municipality’s five councillors were also re-elected:

John van Klaveren – 2,164 Kristen Rodrigues – 1,980

St. Clair Township

Mayor Jeff Agar was re-elected with 3,625 votes in the township of 14,600 residents located on Sarnia’s southern border. Challenger Bruce Gibson received 1,114 votes.

Steve Arnold, a former mayor who did not run last election cycle, returned to municipal politics and was acclaimed as deputy mayor.

Also acclaimed were Brad Langstaff and Bill Myers as councillors in Ward 2.

In the contest for three council seats in Ward 1, Holly Foster was re-elected with 1,904 votes while Tracy Kingston won with 2,355 votes and Alex Machan secured another seat with 2,114 votes.

Pat Brown and Cathy Langis from the previous council did not win any seats according to unofficial results reported by the township.

Lambton Shores

There was a surprising turn in the mayoral race in Lambton Shores-a municipality of 10,600 residents.

Jeff Wilcox, who served as a Ward 7 councillor last term won with 3,020 votes over incumbent Doug Cook who got just 1,781 votes.

“I’m looking forward to it,” Wilcox said Tuesday after his victory.

“The priority is just to keep Lambton Shores moving forward,” he explained-Wilcox manages the Beer and More store in Thedford and has been on council for twelve years.

Cook had been serving as deputy mayor when he took over as mayor in 2022 for this community along Lake Huron from Forest to Grand Bend.

Dan Sageman was re-elected deputy mayor receiving 2,616 votes while challenger Marilyn Smith receivedhttp://example. com/challenger-linkor “choked up” # CODE HERE`@e=e`back### 01 `
