A lengthy investigation has led to the removal of millions of dollars’ worth of drugs and numerous firearms from the streets of southwestern Ontario.
The London Police Service (LPS) began its probe in 2024 after noticing a rise in gun-related violence.
With assistance from the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), the LPS pinpointed several criminal groups that were allegedly able to obtain illegal guns, high-capacity magazines, fentanyl, and cocaine.
On January 14, police executed search warrants at various homes and vehicles in London and Toronto.
Officers seized 12.5 kg of fentanyl, 4.5 kg of cocaine, 275 oxycodone pills, 460 hydromorphone pills, 75 alprazolam pills, 31 firearms, one imitation gun, 25 prohibited items like over-capacity magazines and auto switches, along with $64,000 in cash.
The estimated value of the drugs exceeds $2 million, with law enforcement indicating there was enough fentanyl to potentially kill 125,000 individuals.
The firearms are believed to have originated from states such as Alabama, Georgia, Florida, Michigan, Minnesota, Texas, Ohio, and Virginia.
“The seizure of crime guns originating from the United States and significant quantities of fentanyl and cocaine highlights the complexity of these investigations and the risks posed by organized criminal networks. The [OPP] and our partners are committed to protecting communities and will relentlessly pursue those who endanger lives through violence and the trafficking of deadly substances,” said OPP Commissioner Thomas Carrique.
Nine individuals were arrested while warrants have been issued for two more suspects. Together they face a total of 214 charges.
