A man from the United States has been fined $1,700 due to multiple fishing violations that occurred in May 2025.
The Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources announced that on May 26, a conservation officer was conducting a marine patrol on Lake Erie near Amherstburg when they noticed the individual in a boat using five fishing lines, which is three more than what is allowed.
Upon talking to the man, the officer discovered that he did not have a valid fishing licence. The man was also found with twelve walleye in his possession.
This case was addressed by Justice of the Peace Maureen Ryan-Brode at the Ontario Court of Justice in Windsor during October. The ruling was made public on Friday.
The Belleville, Michigan resident admitted guilt to charges of fishing without a licence and using more lines than permitted.
Along with the fine, his walleye and fishing equipment were seized. He is now prohibited from obtaining an Ontario fishing licence and from fishing in Ontario for one year.
