Large crowd gathers in Sarnia to remember

A whole lot of Sarnia residents, with poppies proudly pinned to their chests, stood in silence in the course of the annual Remembrance Day service at Veterans Park.

The color occasion left the Royal Canadian Legion on Entrance St. at 10:30 a.m. for the downtown procession to the park.

Deacon David Cummings delivered the November 11 deal with to the massive crowd.

“On the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month, time stands nonetheless for a second and we bear in mind those that died not for warfare, however for a world that might be free and at peace,” stated Cummings.

Authorities officers, varied organizations and companies and people laid over 100 wreaths on the foot of the warfare memorial in Veterans Park.

The primary wreath was positioned by Memorial (Silver) Cross Mom Pat Poland, whose son Brent was killed in Afghanistan in 2007.

This 12 months marks the eightieth anniversary of D-Day, 10 years because the finish of the Canadian peacekeeping mission in Afghanistan, and the Royal Canadian Air Pressure centennial.

Premier Doug Ford issued a press release for Remembrance Day.

“On today of remembrance, I ask everybody in Ontario to affix me in paying tribute to the Canadian heroes whose bravery and sacrifice are the inspiration of our nation’s freedom,” stated Ford. “Throughout our shared second of silence, allow us to honour the courageous ladies and men who serve and have served in our Canadian Armed Forces and bear in mind those that gave their lives to maintain us secure.”
