Morris-Turnberry Mayor Jamie Heffer has been elected Warden of Huron County for the 2025-2026 time period.

Heffer takes over the function from Glen McNeil, who accomplished two phrases as warden, together with serving on the Western Ontario Wardens Caucus.

A farmer and municipal chief, Heffer and his spouse function a household farm in Morris-Turnberry, elevating sheep, beef cattle, and rising crops. This agricultural background has deeply influenced Heffer’s management method.

“I am truly honoured to be appointed Warden of Huron County,” stated Heffer. “I look forward to working alongside my fellow councillors and the people of Huron to build a prosperous future for our community.”

Heffer entered municipal politics in 2010 as a councillor. After changing into Deputy Mayor in 2014, he was acclaimed as Mayor in 2018 and once more in 2022.

County Chief Administrative Officer Meighan Wark welcomed Heffer’s appointment. “County of Huron workers congratulate Warden Heffer on his new appointment, and we look ahead to working collectively on this upcoming time period,” she stated.

Heffer introduced his candidacy for warden in September. Former Morris-Turnberry Mayor Paul Gowing served as warden from 2014 to 2016.

As warden, Heffer will lead Huron County Council in tackling regional priorities, fostering collaboration with neighboring counties, and addressing challenges going through rural communities. His tenure begins because the county focuses on financial development, agricultural advocacy, and group growth.

Heffer assumes the function following a vote on the council’s assembly on November 27, 2024.
