A $600,000 grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation will assist more seniors in battling loneliness and finding care within their communities.
This funding was given to Windsor-Essex Compassion Care Community to enhance its programs across seven senior sites of the Windsor Essex Community Housing Corporation.
The initiative seeks to foster connections, build informal care networks, and boost seniors’ overall wellbeing.
“This is a really important stage in the evolution of this model where we can demonstrate that it’s the partnerships and the people coming together can really make a difference in the lives of people who are very vulnerable,” said Project Manager Deborah Sattler.
Drop-in sessions have been set up at seven community housing locations throughout Windsor and Essex County. These sessions provide group activities and social programming as well as individual support.
“It’s meeting our senior residents where they’re at, literally where they’re at in the places that they live in, in the buildings that they occupy but also mentally where they are at in the chapter of their lives,” said Fabio Costante, CEO of the Windsor-Essex Community Housing Corporation.
The grant will fund this program over the next three years.
