B.C. Metropolis councillor charged with extra {sex} crimes in Ontario

James Miller, who’s at the moment suspended from council, was charged with seven extra counts referring to sexual interference, sexual touching and sexual assault.

Penticton metropolis councillor James Miller has been charged with extra historic crimes, bringing his whole variety of charges to 11. 

The Sarnia Police Service in Sarnia, Ont. has now charged Miller with 11 whole counts:


Sexual interferences (seven counts)
Invitation to sexual touching (three counts)
Sexual assault (one depend)

Not one of the charges have been confirmed in courtroom.

Miller was initially arrested on Aug. 1 following a Canada-wide warrant concerning two separate historic sexual assault investigations. Sarnia police charged Miller with two counts of sexual interference and two counts of sexual assault on an individual below the age of 16 years previous. 

The seven new charges are a results of extra victims being recognized.

The offences date again to the late Nineteen Eighties and early Nineteen Nineties when Miller was a youth basketball coach throughout the Sarnia group.

After his first arrest in August, the Metropolis of Penticton introduced in a press release that the 59-year-old councillor is on necessary depart because of the charges.

“As this matter is earlier than the courts, and out of respect for all events concerned, no additional remark will likely be offered,” the assertion learn.

Miller can also be the managing editor of the Penticton Herald.

In July of 2023, Miller’s previous acquittals on charges for sexual assault surfaced. On the time, Miller launched a press release saying that “nearly twenty years in the past, I used to be charged with assault and sexual assault and sexual interference. In 2006 I used to be acquitted of all these charges. I stay grateful to the Canadian authorized system that discovered these allegations towards me have been unproven.”

Miller has been arrested, introduced earlier than a Sarnia courtroom just about, and subsequently launched with circumstances.

The investigation remains to be ongoing, and the Sarnia Police Service is seeking to converse with anybody who could have extra info.

Miller was elected to council in 2021 in a by-election. He was re-elected to a full-term in 2022.
