Alectra Utilities has announced that power is back on for residents in Markham and Richmond Hill after prolonged outages left many without electricity on Thursday night.
The blackout in Richmond Hill was due to a failure in the equipment, while the issue in Markham happened because trees touched the power lines.
The timing of these outages was unfortunate, as temperatures soared into the mid 30s on Thursday.
Hydro One also reported multiple outages on Thursday from storm activity near Georgian Bay.

“Crews are responding to outages as quickly and as safely as possible as thunderstorms move through parts of southern and central Ontario,” a statement on the Hydro One website said.
“Stay clear of any fallen power lines. If you spot a fallen line, keep at least 10 metres back, even if it does not appear to be live. Report it to 911 and call Hydro One at 1-800-434-1235.”
