A plan to increase Toronto’s subway community north so far as Richmond Hill marked its subsequent step Friday with a name for firms to construct the venture.

A sequence of native, provincial and federal politicians gathered at Langstaff GO Station to announce the transfer.

The following stage for the venture can be a request for proposals, asking firms and consortiums to pitch their plans for find out how to tunnel an extension to the Yonge subway line.

The east facet of the TTC‘s Line 1 — also called the Yonge Line — is about to be tunnelled onwards from its present terminus station at Finch Avenue into Richmond Hill and York Area.

The extension will run eight kilometres farther north. It should run for 5 stops by means of Vaughan, Markham and Richmond Hill, terminating at Langstaff GO Station.

Earlier within the 12 months, the province requested bidders who felt they had been certified to place their identify within the operating to construct the tunnel on the venture.

Three groups — CrossTransit Group, North Finish Connectors and Toronto-York Tunnel Connectors — had been short-listed for the venture. The following stage will resolve which of these bidders will construct the brand new tunnels.

“The RFP release is the next critical step in our government’s plan to extend subway service north from Finch Station to communities in Markham, Vaughan and Richmond Hill, for the first time ever,” Prabmeet Sarkaria, minister of transportation, mentioned.

Markham Mayor Frank Scarpitti mentioned he had waited and campaigned for years to push the venture ahead.

“Going to market for this work demonstrates the strong commitment by all three levels of government to York Region’s number one transportation priority,” he mentioned.

The ultimate contract to tunnel the extension is about to be introduced in roughly one 12 months on the finish of 2024.
