Five individuals were hospitalized after a fire broke out in a home in Richmond Hill, Ont., early on Monday morning.
York Regional Police reported that at approximately 3:15 a. m. on Sept. 1, emergency services received a call regarding a house fire on Skywood Drive, located south of Bathurst Street and King Road.
According to police reports, five people were transported to the hospital; three of them suffered life-threatening injuries. In an update provided Monday afternoon, authorities indicated that all five are now considered to be in critical condition.
Jim Kettles, an operations manager with the Office of the Fire Marshal, informed reporters at the scene that firefighters from Richmond Hill had to rescue four individuals from inside the home.

Among those taken to the hospital were four adults and one youth, he added.
The cause of the fire remains unclear.
