The Ontario Provincial Police’s Renfrew detachment was looking into a two-car accident that resulted in the deaths of two women from Val-des-Monts, Quebec, on Tuesday afternoon.

A press release issued on Wednesday stated that the victims, aged 54 and 78, were in a vehicle that collided with a pickup truck on Highway 17 in Renfrew around noon on September 30. They were taken to the hospital but were later pronounced dead.

According to the OPP, there were no injuries reported for the driver and only occupant of the pickup truck.

The crash and subsequent investigation caused Highway 17 to be temporarily closed in both directions from Chenaux Road to Bruce Street in Renfrew.

Anyone who may have seen the accident or has dashcam footage from that area at the time is encouraged to contact the OPP at 1-888-310-1122. Anonymous tips can also be sent to Crime Stoppers toll-free at 1-800-222-8477 or online at ontariocrimestoppers. ca.

Renfrew is located about 90 kilometers west of Ottawa and roughly 120 kilometers southwest of Val-des-Monts.
