Renfrew County Warden Jennifer Murphy and Renfrew-Nipissing-Pembroke MPP Billy Denault attended the recent annual general meeting for the Eastern Ontario Wardens’ Caucus.
The caucus mentioned that this gathering brought together leaders from municipal, provincial, and federal levels, with conversations centered on boosting the economy, improving municipal infrastructure, and enhancing rural health care.
Bonnie Clark, who serves as the Warden of Peterborough County, will continue her role as chair of the caucus in 2026, while Nathan Townend, the Warden of Lennox and Addington, will take on the vice-chair position.
Warden Murphy also addressed attendees as chair of the Eastern Ontario Regional Network, which is focused on improving rural connectivity and overall quality of life.
The caucus has put forward their recommendations for the upcoming provincial budget.
These suggestions include making sure municipalities get tailored support to achieve shared goals related to housing and infrastructure, investing in trade infrastructure, and creating a regulated paramedic college.
They also proposed adding more communities to the Building Faster Fund that rewards municipalities meeting their housing targets and taking a cooperative approach to keep OPP policing affordable.
