Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are urging the public to stay alert after a major manhunt in Renfrew failed to locate the individual they’re seeking.

According to officials, on Aug. 28, a woman arrived at a local hospital and reported that she had been held against her will and sexually assaulted at a motel on Stewart Street. Police believe that the suspect, who is known to her, was armed with a handgun.

This led OPP to launch an extensive search, as they were informed that the man had left the motel but was seen walking around town. Officers spotted him but he managed to evade capture by fleeing onto the Algonquin Trail. More police units, including a canine team, were deployed to widen the search area.

Out of caution, police issued a shelter-in-place order for the north end of Renfrew around 9:00 p. m. that evening.

The “extensive” search continued throughout the night; however, officials later concluded that the man had exited the area. The shelter-in-place order was lifted around 1:00 a. m.

The suspect is described as Black, standing between 5’9″ and 6’0″ tall with hair on top and shaved sides. He has a goatee and sports a five-star tattoo above his left eyebrow along with another tattoo located under his left eye.

He was last seen wearing a purple plaid jacket and possibly black shorts paired with a blue shirt.

OPP asks anyone who sees him to call 9-1-1 right away. Please do not approach him. The individual is encouraged to reach out to the Renfrew OPP and turn himself in.
