Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are urging the public to stay vigilant after a large-scale manhunt in Renfrew failed to locate the individual they’re searching for.

Authorities reported that on Aug. 28, a woman arrived at a local hospital claiming she had been held against her will and sexually assaulted at a motel on Stewart Street. Police believe that the suspect, whom she knows, was armed with a handgun.

This led to an extensive search by OPP, who were informed that the suspect had left the motel but was seen walking around town. Officers spotted him but he managed to escape by entering the Algonquin Trail. More police units, including a canine team, were dispatched to broaden their search efforts.

A shelter-in-place order was issued for the northern part of Renfrew around 9:00 p. m. that evening as a precaution.

The “extensive” search went on throughout the night but officials concluded that the man had vacated the area. The shelter-in-place was lifted around 1:00 a. m.

The suspect is described as Black, between 5’9″ and 6’0″ tall, with hair on top and shaved sides. He has a goatee and sports a five-star tattoo above his left eyebrow along with another tattoo under his left eye.

He was last seen wearing a purple plaid jacket and possibly black shorts with a blue shirt.

OPP is asking anyone who sees him to call 9-1-1 right away. Do not approach him directly. This individual is encouraged to reach out to Renfrew OPP and turn himself in.
